Q: <\/b>I\u2019ve been dating my girlfriend for a year and we\u2019re really in love. She\u2019s very close to her family, but we kind of put off spending time with them while we were still in our honeymoon period, because she told me they can be tough on people outside of the family. Well, she was right. They met me, and they hated me. Nothing I did was good enough for them. I brought her mom flowers that my girlfriend picked out\u2014but her mom pretended to be allergic to them and threw them out. Her dad refused to look me in the eye or make conversation and after I left, they told her that she has to break up with me. She laughed it off, but I really feel like they were serious. How do I deal with a family that won\u2019t even give me a chance and how do I get her to confront the fact that they\u2019re trying to get in the middle of our relationship?<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n A:<\/b> This is certainly a tough situation! You and your girlfriend need to do what\u2019s good for you both and not allow her parents to interfere. But you can\u2019t force someone to love you. Clearly, her parents are very protective of their daughter, and for some parents, no one is \u201cgood enough.\u201d This will be challenging for you both. This puts your girlfriend in a tough spot as she may feel that she has to choose between you and her parents\u2014that is not a good place to be. For the time being, you may need to keep her parents out of your relationship, and let your girlfriend deal with her own parents in her own way.<\/span><\/p>\n Is It Cheating?<\/b><\/p>\n Q: <\/b>I ended up in a weird situation where I found pictures of other women on my husband of a year\u2019s phone. But he wasn\u2019t getting them from women\u2014he was getting them from another guy. I can\u2019t tell if the guy got them from a porn site or from women he was with. But either way, to me it\u2019s extremely weird for a guy to interact this way with another man. I don\u2019t know what each is getting out of it. I don\u2019t want to throw away a 6-year relationship just a year after we got married\u2014but I feel really weird about what I saw. What should I do?<\/span><\/p>\n A:<\/b> Open and honest communication is the key. Some guys do send each other porn or pics or what have you (sometimes they can be dirty jokes or the like). However, if you are not comfortable with this, you need to speak up and tell your husband how you feel. It may all be innocent, but you still are entitled to your feelings.
